The Glass – Time

The Past is where it should be…Leave it!

“A memory is what is left when something happens and does not completely
unhappen.” –Edward de Bono

Okay, so don’t just leave it, but learn from it.  The point here is that you do NOT want to dwell on it.  There are many terms that can be used, but I like a financial term of a “sunk cost.”  The money’s been spent, you can’t get it back, so just write it off.  This is how the past needs to be.  You can reflect on it, learn what you can and move on.  Don’t regret decisions that you made 10 years ago, because there is nothing you can do about THAT particular decision.  If you think you should have done something differently in the past, then make sure you remember that when the opportunity to repeat it comes in the future.  That is the best thing the past does for you is give you road markers for the future.

Today is the day that matters

“In rivers, the water that you touch is the last of what has passed and the first of
that which comes; so with present time.” –Leonardo da Vinci

There is no day, but today.  Tomorrow may not come.  We hope it will and we live for it, but there’s no guarantee.  Live life to the fullest today.  So, that may sound like a little contrary to most of the content on this site, but in its essence, there is truth.  Plan for tomorrow, but don’t hold back today.  That’s the just.  Today only happens now.  If you waste your opportunity today, then that closes doors that would normally have been open tomorrow.  Seize what is in front of you and go forth with the knowledge that as long as you give it all today, tomorrow will have the best chance of being successful.

Looking ahead

“The best thing about the future is that it comes only one day at a time.” – Abraham Lincoln

Mr. Lincoln sums it up.  As with time, life marches on.  One day at a time.  It’s beneficial to look ahead and it’s critical to plan for a future.  The future you want to have.  The future you want to live and see and breathe.  If today is what you make of it then the future is completely malleable.  There may be fates and destinies, but you nor I will ever know if that is true.  However, if you feel that everything is already set in motion and decide to just ride the wave, then your prophecy will be self-fulfilling and you will NOT reach your full potential.  I believe that we have a road in front of us that will take us to our destination.  But along this road, there are so many exit ramps and detours that you may take.  And if you take them with conviction and faith, then they will lead you to the future you want.
